Welcome to the Descendants of Robert Richardson (c1637 - 1682) Home Page.

This web page is dedicated to the two descendants of Robert and Susanna Richardson whose life long efforts make it possible for us to create this page: William "Bill" R. Bishop, Jr. and Samuel "Sam" F. Daugherty.  On March 5, 2002 Sam left this planet behind and joined the ancestors to whom he was both lovingly devoted and about whom he shared so much.  All of us who knew Sam can gratefully acknowledge the gift he gave so freely of himself.

Purposes: This Web Page is to discover the ancestors of Robert Richardson and his wife Susanna (d/o Richard Smith) Richardson, and to identify and gather genealogical information on the lines of the descendants of Robert and Susanna Richardson.

Mount Ephraim is the name that Robert Richardson gave to his 2000 acre plantation based on a land grant dated November 9, 1666, (shown below). Robert Richardson died at Mount Ephraim September 10, 1682. The patent had to be reissued when the line between Accomack County Virginia and Somerset County Maryland was redrawn. The eastern part of Somerset County was severed to become Worcester County in 1742. Much of this land remained in the family until the latter nineteenth century.

The original house was constructed of wood and has long since disappeared along with Robert Richardson's wooden grave marker. The present Mount Ephraim (which now refers only to the house) was built near the site of the original wooden house and dates from around 1770. The interior of Mount Ephraim was completely remodeled in the 1950s. The house is located in Worcester Co., MD near the public Landing where Rt. 365 from Snow Hill, MD intersects Chincoteague Bay (click here for map).
