This information is from Jimmie Lee Barker Anderson, Circa 1980:
Asher Richardson was born September 21, 1855. He was the son of Littleton and Harriet Scarborough Richardson of Snow Hill, Maryland.
Asher Richardson was discharged from Company H, 8th U. S. Regiment of Cavalry at Ringgold Barracks, Texas on April 13,1877. His occupation was "saddler." His character was described as "excellent, an honest and trustworthy man."
He chose to remain in Texas to seek his fortune rather than return to his home in Maryland. Richardson was included in the 1880 Census of Dimmit County, which listed his occupation as that of "wool grower." William Votaw hired Richardson to raise sheep on the San Pedro Ranch.
Mary Isabelle Votaw and Asher Richardson were married at the San Antonio, Texas home of her parents, William and Mary Jane Slaughter Votaw, on June 29, 1881. After the wedding, the couple moved to the Oak Grove Ranch in Dimmit County, about six miles southeast of Carrizo Springs. ...
Numerous deeds to property consisting of many thousands of acres were recorded by Asher Richardson in Dimmit County from 1882 until the time of his death. In 1908 Richardson started a town on ranchland bought in December of 1884 by himself and William and Mary Jane Slaughter Votaw. Richardson purchased the property from Mary Jane Sayer, Votaw's widow who had remarried, in January of 1898.
Colonel Richardson (an honorary title) died at the home of his mother, Harriet Richardson, on September 14, 1914. His widow lived at their home, Bel-Asher, until her death on June 13, 1941. Two of the Richard [son] children, Littleton and Forrest, who shared their mother's home with her, also died at the Asherton residence. The Richardson family burial plot is in Mission Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
